After months of relentless races, long miles, and wild adventures, ultra runner, author, and podcaster Allie Bailey swapped mountain trails for the peace and quiet of Cornwall. Known for her honesty, humour, and unfiltered take on endurance life, Allie took some well-earned time to rest and reset at Knocker Cottage.

For those unfamiliar with her, Allie Bailey is one of the UK’s most recognisable figures in endurance running. She’s an award-winning coach, writer, and mental health advocate, known for helping people achieve things they never thought possible. A recovering alcoholic and fierce believer in the power of self-acceptance, Allie has completed world-first expeditions — from running across Mongolia’s frozen lakes to traversing the Namib Desert — and is the author of There Is No Wall, a raw and powerful book about running, resilience, and recovery.

In 2025, Allie finished 8th at the Dragon’s Back Race — one of the UK’s toughest multi-day mountain events — and took 1st place in the Summer Spine Challenger North, a brutal 160-mile race along the Pennine Way.

Allie visited Cornwall with her sister, niece, and her dog Pickle, turning the trip into a relaxed family getaway. Together, they explored beaches, coast paths, and the local countryside, enjoying a proper mix of adventure and downtime.

Her trip wasn’t all rest, though. Allie laced up her running shoes and explored the local trails — running along Godrevy Beach and the South West Coast Path, where dramatic cliffs meet endless sea. Between adventures, she discovered some of the area’s local gems, from the fish finger focaccia at Hell’s Mouth Café to a relaxed lunch at Silco in St Ives. She even found time for a rejuvenating session at Tan and Dowr sauna by the sea — perfect recovery after those coastal runs.

When she wasn’t out exploring, Knocker Cottage offered a comfortable retreat — the perfect mix of history and modern comfort, with space to unwind and reflect.

Allie’s visit wasn’t about chasing miles or finish lines. It was about connection — with herself, with nature, and with a landscape that has always inspired adventure. And that’s the beauty of Knocker Cottage: it’s as much a base for exploration as it is a haven for recovery.

Whether you’re training for your next ultra, escaping city life, or simply craving a few quiet mornings with coffee and birdsong, Knocker Cottage offers space to breathe.
